Paul di Resta, joins a very long list of British F1 drivers, and some have suggested that he has the talent to match the achievements of the best. He began his racing in Karts competing from 1994 until 2002, winning the British JICA championship in 2001.
Di Resta progressed to Formula Renault at the end of 2002. He won a number of races in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, finishing third in the 2004 series and was awarded the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of The Year Award.
In 2005, Paul di Resta moved to Formula Three Euroseries, finishing in tenth place in the championship. In 2006 Paul di Resta's reputation was firmly established when he won the championship. To put such into perspective his teammate at the ASM Formula 3 team was Sebastian Vettel (2010 F1 World Drivers Champion).
Di Resta moved in 2007 from single seater racing to touring cars, competing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) touring car racing series, for Mercedes. He finished in fifth place in the championship, but was the highest placed driver in a non-2007 car. In 2008, he was second, only four points off the championship, and in 2009, he finished in third. He won the title in 2010, including winning three consecutive races.
Di Resta tested for Force India in 2010 and took part F1 pre-practice sessions on occasions throughout the season, he was said to have settled in well with the team, and few were surprised when it was announced he would replace Vitantonio Liuzzi in 2011.
Paul di Resta will be keen to demonstrate that he can better the high expectations that many have of him.
