Racing Flags

It is amazing to some that despite F1being the most high tech of sports that incredibly low tech racing flags are still used to indicate track condition and to communicate important messages to the drivers. The race director monitors the race as a whole and communicates via radio with the track marshals are stationed at observation posts along the course in order to communicate both local and course-wide conditions to drivers by waving different flags.

The standard flags used in F1 are summarised below:

Flag
green_flag.jpg Start/end of hazard/restart
yellow_flag.jpg Local caution or full-course caution (if displayed with "SC" sign)
redyellow_flag.jpg Debris/oil/slippery course (road courses only)
red_flag.jpg Session stopped
white_flag.jpg Slow vehicle on track
black_flag.jpg Return to pits (i.e. Normally disqualification)
blackorange_flag.jpg Car has a dangerous mechanical problem and needs to stop
blackwhite_flag.jpg Unsportsmanlike conduct
blue_flag.jpg Faster car approaching
chequered_flag.jpg End of session

Sebastian Vettel looks unbeatable at the start of the season. However, Monaco is a track where Vettel has never won before. Can Vettel win again this weekend?
